Visits and volunteering
Visit Christ Church Spitalfields and you will understand why Giles Worsley wrote in Daily Telegraph: “The restoration of Christ Church... is a triumph. It may have taken more than a quarter of a century to complete and needed the largest grant ever given by the Heritage Lottery Fund to a church... but the result is worth every penny. Only now can we fully understand the masterpiece of the man who has a good claim to be Britain's greatest architect, Nicholas Hawksmoor... For those used to the thin, pallid post-war restorations of bomb-damaged City churches, this meticulously accurate restoration is a revelation.”
If you visit us on a Tuesday or a Sunday, we hope to offer you a warm welcome as you explore this fascinating building. We are open to the public on Sundays (1pm-4pm) and Tuesdays (11am-4pm). The church is also open Monday to Friday between 11am-4pm if it is not being used as a venue. If you are travelling a long distance, please check in advance by calling (020) 7377 6793. On Tuesdays, individuals and small groups may request a tour without booking, subject to the availability of our guide.
Our church is staffed by volunteers who donate their time on Tuesdays and Sundays. If you enjoy your time in this magnificent building and would like to join the team of Open Church volunteers, or even train to lead tours, we would love to hear from you by phone (020 7247 4027) or email. Training and induction will be provided.
