What is the link between CCS and the freemasons?
Submitted by admin on Wed, 05/09/2007 - 10:47.
There isn’t one! Of course, Freemasons can be found in many walks of life and one of their origins is of course those who worked with stone. Christ Church clearly had many stone-masons involved when it was originally built. Beyond that there have been ficticous rumours but today and for many years we can attest to the fact that there are no links between Christ Church and the Freemasons.

These are to be found at Bancroft Road Tower Hamlets reference library. The church only keeps recent records within the last 10-15 years.
Which are the other Hawksmoor churches?

For lots on information visit our Friends site. There were just six of the envisaged twelve Hawksmoor churches built in London and they are:
- St Alfege Greenwich
- Christ Church Spitalfields
- St George in the East Wapping
- St Anne Limehouse
- St Mary Woolnoth
- St George Bloomsbury
Other than that one city of London church has a tower designed by Hawksmoor, we shall leave you to find that yourself!
Can I park nearby?

Sunday mornings parking is regulated - do please park carefully so as not to get a ticket. Whites Row car park is just across commercial street and usually has places at most times of the week. Weddings and funeral parking can be arranged with the vergers.
Does CCS have a café?

Not yet but we hope that one day there may be one in our crypt. In the meantime we would encourage you to try one of the many wonderful eateries in the local neighbourhood. A favourite of many of us is the Market House Coffee shop in Brushfield Street where soon you will be able to lean against paneling that once was part of our church!
Does CCS have accessible facilities?

Yes we have a disabled toilet at the nave level and two blocks of toilets in our crypt.
