2010 exhibitions and events:
Sublime Flesh - architectural experiments for contemporary spiritual spaces
Tuesday 30 March - Sunday 11 April
Sublime Flesh brings together, for the first time, new designs for contemporary spiritual spaces developed by students at the Bartlett School of Architecture. A collection of remarkable research projects located in international cities including London, Istanbul, Rome, Turin, Lisbon, Havana and Miami, each explores a unique sense of sacredness and the Sublime. The complex nature of these themes is articulated in a series of exquisite models that express not only a new ornamental, spatial and technological approach and also a reconsidered religious and cultural dimension for contemporary architecture design.
Exhibition Events:
Tuesday 6 April - Exhibition Symposium
Sunday 11 April - Arts activity afternoon for all ages
From Morning - A day of dance curated by Florence Peake
Thursday 27 May
Performances at 9 am, 12 noon and 7.30 pm (Evening Bar 7-9.30 pm)
Tickets: £7 (£5 conc.) morning/noon performances, £10 (£7 conc.) evening performance, £15 (£11 conc.) day ticket
Five contemporary dance artists bring their work to Christ Church. Each piece is choreographed to inhabit a distinct space in the church and will find a new resonance with both architecture and audience, as viewers are invited to encounter work in the intimate crypt, through the majestic nave, to the aerial heights of the upper galleries.
Rebecca Hind - The first exhibition in the Christ Church reredos
Opening exhibition Friday 2 to Sunday 4 July, installation until December.
Three new large-scale watercolour works explore light, shade and the spiritual significance of that range, developed around the theme of Christ’s Life, Death and Resurrection.
In addition to regular exhibiting of her painting, Hind was artist in residence at the Banqueting House, London in 2002, and affiliated artist with both Sacred Land and the Alliance of Religions and Conservation for six years. This led to her writing three books, 1000 Faces of God, Sacred Places and most recently, Sacred Journeys, which was published this year. She has frequently appeared on television and radio discussing art in relation to spirituality. In addition, she has been teaching painting and drawing to adults for many years, currently at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art.
